Parents' Guide To Child Behavior Modification
When a father or mother is faced with his child's behavior problems, he should firstly make an effort to identity the kind of problem. This would help the mother or father to deal with the child much more efficiently and help them achieve child behavior modification. Behavioral issues in a child can be of different types. For instance, boisterous behavior, bad temper, defiant behavior conduct disorder or even attention deficit disorder all of these could cause problems.
While for attention deficit disorder and defiant behavior usually it's advisable to get help from a professional but more often than not parents can themselves deal with child behavioral problems of their very own child after all behavior is learned from home!
Most of the time the mother and father could help themselves in their child behavior modification through some simple steps.
1. Draw limits for your very own kid.. This suggests that as a parent you must make clear cut distinctions between the desired behavior and the undesirable behavior. As a father or mother one should inform the child about his/her limits.
2. Don't make a lot of rules. When setting the limits or the do's and don'ts for your own child a mother or father should know that there should not be too many rules. This may actually retard the development of the child as it will kill his eagerness to experiment and promote open thought.
3. Ensure that the rules you make for your kid are flexible so that your own child could enjoy space and you as a parent need to break your rules to accommodate your kid's wishes. This could actually develop a healthy bond between the child and the parent.
4. Don't give in to your child's unreasonable demands. As a father or mother one should be careful as to not to give in to their kid's unreasonable demands. This at a later stage could cause defiant disorder because the child would assume that displaying tantrums would make parents gullible.
5. Always give reason to your kid for not accepting or fulfilling the child's demands. Instead of just saying that don't do that as I told you so, give a reason. This would not only make the child understand but also trust you.
6. Never shout or over react towards your child's undesirable habits this will invariably make him or her stubborn. Instead give reason for your disapproval of the behavior. Find out other ways and means to correct your kid's behavior. Sometimes a stern look could be more effective than a shout.
7. Be firm. Parents should always remember that they do not deviate from their statements. A 'no' must be a 'no' and should not turn into a yes at any circumstance. This will help in not only disciplining the kid but also changing faulty behaviors.
If parents can be careful in ensuring that they keep the above mentioned pointers in mind, they would surely be able to make sure they are able to get their child behavior modification goals fulfilled in a smooth manner without having to shout or hit the kid.
