Leatherman Kick Pocket Tool - An Excellent Product That's Compact But Still Equipped With Useful Tools
The Leatherman Kick is the smallest of a range of 3 tools from Leatherman, the other models being the Fuse together with the Blast.
Leatherman Kick - A Lightweight Tool
The Leatherman Kick features plastic set into the body of the tool which makes it much more comfortable to grip than the previous PST and PST II models. The Leatherman Kick is a very welcome addition, as people who have purchased and used a PST will confirm! The pliers have been updated to increase strength without increasing the pocket tool's size or bulk, and appears to have made a difference- they are a little odd to look at for people who are used to other models, nevertheless this is a tool, not a fashion show, and they work.
The Leatherman Kick also includes a phillips screwdriver, can/bottle opener, two flathead screwdrivers, plus a clip- point knife. The tool selection may be bare on this one, although remember, it is the smallest of the three models. The upside is that the tools (primarily the screwdrivers) seem to be an improvement than other multi's - the shafts are a little longer, allowing a slightly more versatility than you might expect, and an improved chance at hard to reach screws. It's a small thing, but it really does make a difference - especially if it's the only tool you have by your side and the screw is buried inside of something.
Leatherman Kick - Features Extended Screwdriver
There is no doubt about it, the Kick is a nice tool, but it does have it's drawbacks. Due to it's light weight, the Kick feels inadequate. As it is supported by Leatherman's 25 year guarantee, it is very well made, however in comparison to many other tools both greater in size and smaller, it doesn't feel to be quite as tough. It also might seem a little small to people with big hands.
On an important note, despite the lack of numerous tools on the product, it still suffers from Leatherman's infamous problem, tool clumping. Why is it that a handle with just 3 tools built in, all come out when you try to get only one? With revised designs of tools, this malfunction should be a forgotten memory.
The Leatherman Kick is a decent tool at a good price, but not a good choice for a regular user or a bigger person. My suggestion is that it's better suited as a small tool for a lady's purse or as a child's first tool. It could be seen as a "cute" tool for those folks that don't often need tools although like to be prepared.
